Overture to a Carnival

Frank Proto

An exciting, full-blown orchestral showpiece with a decidedly contemporary, Hollywood sound. Beginning with a lush, romantic introduction, it quickly becomes a brilliant, fanfare type feature for the trombones. The main body of the work is a fast Latin/Jazz samba. There is an optional, improvised solo for any good jazz player (trumpet, trombone, flute, piano etc.). Although intended as an overture to a Pops Concert the high energy ending makes this piece suitable for a first half or program closer..
