Première
Premiere recordings of Frank Proto's Nine Variants on Paganini and François Rabbath's Reitba. Featuring performances of both works in versions for bass with piano and bass with orchestra. The Nine Variants, composed in 2001, is the fifth work that Proto has written expressly for Rabbath to feature him with orchestra and in its short life time has already become a staple of the double bass repertoire. Rabbath's popular favorite Reitba, his portrait of the African Desert, has been orchestrated and is heard for the first time in this new setting.
This special enhanced CD, in addition to playing on any conventional Compact Disc player, may also used on any Windows or Macintosh Personal Computer. Extra features, including program notes, biographies, photographs, music and video are assessible via the easy-to-use interface provided on the disc.
Rabbath is accompanied by the ESF Chamber Orchestra conducted by Frank Proto, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Stahl and Pianist Michael Chertock.
