A "history" of Casey
Hear a complete performance
Frank Proto's "Casey at the Bat" is well on its way to becoming an American classic. It's a perfect marriage of classic Americana and the type of incisive, distinctive orchestral writing that is Frank's trademark. Happy birthday, Casey!

Dear Frank,
I would like to add my congratulations on the occasion of the 400th performance of "Casey at the Bat". Mighty Casey has struck out at least ten times as I have conducted his demise to the delight of audiences during at least ten performances.
What a wonderful combination of symphonic writing, big band, synthesizer and narration! It was also a joy to have recorded the work with the Philly Pops and with the irrepressible Tug McGraw as narrator.
I wish you and Casey continued success and many more years of thrilling strikeouts.
Warmest regards.

Frank Proto's Casey has it all! That it's so well musically crafted and impossible to pigeon-hole will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Frank's music. Casey is that special piece, in a category all its own, with a timeless flavor and humor that never fails to excite both traditional and younger audiences.

Dear Frank,
In an over 20 year career, I have never encountered such a popular, fun filled pops piece as Frank Proto's classic favorite Casey At The Bat. It has never failed to bring an audience to its feet. I can't imagine a more perfect setting of this great American poem as it brilliantly combines electronic tape with prerecorded crowd noises and a fantsticallv exciting orchestration. It is the perfect pops piece for the summer whether performed in the concert hall or in the baseball stadium.
I congratulate Frank on his 400th performance and imagine that our chcildren and our children's children will learn Casey At The Bat.

Dear Frank:
Just a note to commend you on "Casey at the Bat." We have found it an extremely effective piece blending theatre, tape, and a musical setting which combines jazz and contemporary idioms. It is that rare addition to our repertoire which adds narrator to a superb orchestral setting. A welcome addition to any sort of pops program as well as to more serious programs. It is dramatic, moving, and fun.
Yours sincerely,
