Charles
Holmond has been a director, teacher and actor for 30 years. He has
served as producing director for the New Theatre/Free Theatre since its
inception in 1967. In the spring of 1995 he directed the world premiere
performances of Frank Proto and John Chenault's Ghost in Machine with the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jesus Lopez-Cobos and featuring Cleo
Laine and Paul Winfield.
As an
actor Holmond's voice can be heard on Proto's Afro-American Fragments.
He performed the premiere performance and recorded the work for Red
Mark. He has since performed the work many times with Ensemble Sans
Frontière.
Charles also premiered Proto and Chenault's Ode to A Giant and Mingus - Live in the Underworld. Both works, for solo double bass and narrator, also appear on the CD Afro American Fragments.
In 2003 Holmond directed the world premiere performance of Proto's The Profanation of Hubert J. Fort.
Currently he is a professor of Theatre Arts
at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
